One Foot Forward Week #3
my third week fundraising for the Black Dog Institute
— For a bit of background info on One Foot Forward, the Black Dog Institute and why I’m doing it, see this post!
One Foot Forward
As October is mental health month, and I am currently in the midst of a mental health crisis, I’m taking part in One Foot Forward to raise funds and awareness for the Black Dog Institute. I pledge to walk 40km over the month of October.
Wednesday 15 October
I did my kms with Gigi today and she was SUCH a good girl. Unusually good actually! It’s so nice to be able to take her out in the evenings now the weather is heating up and I’m not working. I don’t usually join Gigi and Daniel on walks in the week as the heat is a surefire way to get a migraine, but now Gigi and I just go together while he’s at work and it’s been lovely bonding for us (even if Daddy is still her favourite human).
Thursday 16 October
I jinxed it yesterday, Gigi did not stand for “Good Girl” today! But it still gets me closer to my goal, even if she makes it harder than it needs to be hehe. I’m up to 24km now and I’ve raised $930!! If you would like to help me reach my goal of $1000, click below!
Friday 17 October
I went to my neurologist for my quarterly migraine preventative treatment so no feet were put forward today. I have to take it reasonably easy for a couple of days, the procedure triggers a massive migraine at some point in the days to follow, so I have to be wary of pushing myself too hard.
Saturday 18 October
Laying low again today! I wouldn’t have been able to take Gigi for a walk today anyway because we had a really intense hail storm.
Sunday 19 October
Got out of the house today to walk the dog this evening, 2.6km! This brings me up to almost 27km, so I’m on track to reach 30km by the end of this week which is exciting!
I’m feeling particularly proud of myself today. I’ve wanted to join so many walking challenges in the past (for various causes) but my chronic illness makes it so hard to commit to anything.
I’m thankful that I don’t have to balance work anymore, so it gives me a lot more freedom to exercise. I don’t need to live in fear of triggering a migraine before my night shift, and if I DO get a migraine I am able to take care of myself at home.
Monday 20 October
My evening walks with my dog are becoming a favourite part of my day! Almost 3km logged today. It’s really getting hot here in Queensland very quickly, so I think I’ll start going half an hour later and see if there’s much difference. There’s lots of routine adjustment going on at the moment with me being home all day and moving my sleep schedule forward, so hopefully we’ll find the sweet spot soon!
I definitely have a lot more energy and zero migraines since resigning from my job which is mindblowing to me. I feel like an entirely different person and I love it.
Tuesday 21 October
I didn’t finish strong this week, Daniel took Gigi for her walk while I got some things done around the house. I’m still finishing the week at 29/40km so doing pretty good!
